Newly qualified Chartered Surveyor Zoe rewarded with key role in retail, office, leisure and investment team

Newly qualified Chartered Surveyor Zoe Clarvis has been appointed to a key role at Garness Jones - working to attract and support leisure, retail and office investment across the region.

Zoe, 32, has been with us at Garness Jones for two years, having previously spent seven years at ABP as an estates surveyor.

Since joining the team she has studied towards securing her Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) qualification in commercial property, whilst learning on the job alongside our highly-experienced team.

And Paul White, Agency Director at Garness Jones, says she has excelled in the role and established herself as a key figure within the business.

“Securing the RICS Chartered Surveyor status is very important as it demonstrates to our clients that Zoe meets the highest standards of competency and performance in all aspects of commercial property work,” he said.

“It is an important, independent accreditation within our industry, but one we knew she’d secure seamlessly as Zoe has been a tremendous addition to the team since the day she walked in the door two years ago.

“She has worked incredibly hard to develop an excellent understanding of the property market across Yorkshire and Lincolnshire and understand what investors, landlords and tenants need from us.

“Zoe will now be working closely with myself in attracting investment to the region and supporting the leisure, office and retail sectors, with a real focus presently on supporting a number of initiatives in Hull city centre.

“It is an exciting at the business at present as we are currently working on a number of major developments and projects. In particular momentum is really building around the Hammonds of Hull scheme, which will see the former House of Fraser building transformed into an exciting mixed use facility incorporating offices, food, retail and leisure.

“What Zoe has demonstrated to us is a great understanding of the market locally and how markets are changing, particularly with regard to city and town centres.

“She knows where the opportunities are for buyers, sellers and occupiers, and can really offer an extra level of service to our clients.”

‘We can help shape the progress and economy of the region’

In securing her qualification, Zoe completed a RICS accredited degree, documented her handling of a complete property transaction and was questioned by three RICS assessors in an hour long interview.

And she says the two years working with Garness Jones ensured she was completely prepared for any questions which came her way, and for the role she has now undertaken.

“I’ve been fortunate to learn from a very experienced and knowledgeable team here over the past two years,” she said.

“They ensured that I learned all the essential basic skills to give me the foundations to build upon, but have also given me the opportunities to see first-hand how large property transactions and investments are handled and managed.

“I find the job really interesting and varied, from valuation and to property management and ensuring the smooth running deals to make sure they are completed on schedule.

“There is always something different on every property negotiation, but our aim is always to bring the same high-level of experience, knowledge and customer service to the table, and by doing that we can help shape the progress and growth of the local economy.”
